Street Racing Leads to Austin Fatality

Reports say that early last month Austin Police Officers responded to a racing-caused crash in the 800 Block of Bastrop Highway that ended in a fatality.

Evidently, a blue Ford Mustang driven by Esteban Leos-Beltran was racing with an unknown vehicle southbound on Bastrop Highway near Thompson Lane. When a Jeep Liberty attempted to enter the roadway turning onto Southbound Bastrop Highway by using the center cross-over,  the Mustang collided with the Jeep Liberty as it turned onto Bastrop Highway. The second vehicle, still unidentified, did not remain at the scene.

Esteban Leos-Beltran, 17, was transported to University Medical Center at Breckenridge Hospital with serious injuries. He died later as a result of his injuries. The driver of the Jeep and his passenger were treated for minor injuries.

Austin police are still investigating and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives at (512) 974-8212.
