Austin Records Final Auto Fatality of 2010

Austin's last auto fatality occurred ten days before the end of the year, reports say, making 2010 a year with less than average roadway deaths - good news for the state's capitol.

Still, it was unfortunate for the 38-year-old white female who was walking across the southbound lanes of IH 35 South, the year's last traffic-accident victim.

As she walked across the freeway for unspecified reason, a grey Toyota traveling southbound on IH 35 struck her. She was then struck by numerous other vehicles as she lay on the

Freeway. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Although neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors in this crash, and no charges are

anticipated, the case remains under investigation. The identity of the female is being withheld.

This was the 49th fatality of 2010, and by this time last year (2009) there were 61 fatalities in Austin.
