Alcohol Factor in Austin Auto Death

Early last month Austin Police Officers responded to a crash in the 1900 block of East Ben White Blvd. The accident that precipitated their presence was caused by a Peterbuilt 18-wheeler tractor trailer that was stopped for a red light at the intersection of westbound E. Ben White Blvd. and Woodward Street.

When the light turned green. The driver of the 18-wheeler began to travel westbound again as Xavier Gutierrez, 52, was driving a black Honda sedan westbound on E. Ben White Blvd. and ran into the back of the 18-wheeler.

Gutierrez was pronounced deceased at the scene, but the driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

Reports say that Gutierrez was driving at a high rate of speed without headlights, and speed and alcohol appear to be factors in this crash.
