Austin Logs its Tenth Traffic Fatality
Reports say that on Thursday, February 24, 2011, at 10:27 p.m., Austin Police Officers responded to an auto-pedestrian crash in the 6800 block of South Pleasant Valley Road.
A 2007 white Ford F350 tow truck driving southbound in the outside lane of the 6800 block of South Pleasant Valley Road struck two pedestrians who were walking southbound also in the outside lane of the 6800 block of South Pleasant Valley Road. Evidently, the nearby sidewalk was not being used by the pair.
The Ford struck both pedestrians from behind and stopped to render aid. Both pedestrians were transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge where one, Pedro Rocha Briones, 57, died from his injuries the next morning. The other pedestrian was released from the hospital with minor injuries. This is the 10th fatality of 2011. At the same time in 2010, there were four traffic fatalities.
