Ambulance Accident Kills One
In mid-February, Austin Police Officers responded to a serious injury collision at the North Interstate 35 west frontage road and East 15th Street involving an ambulance that resulted in a fatality.
Reports say the victim was traveling southbound on the North IH 35 West frontage road at E 15th Street with a green light. An Austin-Travis County EMS ambulance was traveling west bound on East 15th Street under IH 35 on the way to University Medical Center at Brackenridge with a patient. The ambulance had the red light but entered the intersection with lights and sirens
activated.
Two of the three lanes of traffic stopped on the green light to allow the ambulance to go through the intersection. The victim did not yield to the emergency vehicle and was struck. The victim was transported to University Medical Center at Brackenridge Hospital with life threatening injuries, and was pronounced deceased nearly a week later as a result of her injuries.
