Woman Dies While Jumping From Burning Car on Houston’s Katy Freeway
A female driver behind the wheel of a Kia Sedona headed toward the Houston city limits was alerted by other motorists that her vehicle was on fire and leapt from the still-moving vehicle, reports say. As the woman began to exit the freeway and began slowing her burning vehicle, she reportedly got impatient or frightened and jumped from the burning vehicle, striking the pavement at speed.
In the attempt to extricate herself from the car, she struck her head on concrete and reportedly suffered severe head and spinal trauma. The unoccupied vehicle came to a stop on the service road. Although emergency crews transported the woman to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival.
Reportedly, an HFD arson investigator was called and found nothing suspicious about the vehicle. The identity of the deceased female victim, who was said to be 37-years-old, is pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.
