Woman Crashes Head-On Into School Bus
Altamont, New York Police are investigating an bus accident involving a Guilderland Central School District bus which was involved in a head-on accident in the town of Altamont, reports say.
Reports say a Clifton Park woman was driving southeast and crossed into oncoming traffic in a curve and struck the school bus heading in the other direction. The driver of the car, 29-year-old Tara Cerrato, was taken to Albany Medical Center Hospital; her injuries were reported to be minor. She was apparently issued several traffic tickets.
Debra Marks, the 52-year-old school bus driver, was taken to St. Peter's Hospital along with another 52-year-old bus passenger, Valerie Roundy-Collins, reports say. Another young passenger was evaluated by EMS on the scene and released to a parent with no apparent injury.
Riding busses or other public and private group transportation puts the responsibility squarely on the operators of the transport company and its employees. The employees know some of the risks, but the public often does not. Adding to those risks by individual negligence or under-training employees increases the on-the-job danger tremendously.
