Chesapeake Children Injured in School Bus Crash
With only two days of school left, Deep Creek Middle School's field would have been one of the last bus rides any of the school's students would take that year. It almost became the last ride, period.
Bus 644 ran off a shoulder less road and flipped on its side, tossing students and sending a dozen people to the emergency room in eight ambulances, including the driver. Although most were transported to the hospital, most of the kids simply suffered bumps and bruises. Less than a half-dozen were slightly worse, but no deaths were reported.
The cause of the crash, which occurred at 8:20 a.m. on a rainy stretch where Gruen Street merges onto Jarvis Road and which has a posted 25 mph speed limit, is still being investigated. Reportedly, officials inspected the bus after it was towed from the scene and found nothing wrong with the brakes or steering.
