Bus Crash Kills Two in Denver
Twenty-nine-year-old Dustin Peletier and 28-year-old Carla Miranda died while fourteen other bus riders were injured in an accident that involved a municipal RTD bus that allegedly ran a red light and struck two other vehicles at 8th Avenue and Lincoln Street in Downtown Denver. The bus reportedly collided with a Volkswagen sedan and a pickup truck.
Peletier, who was driving the Volkswagen, was seriously injured and succumb quickly afterward when the bus struck his car, pinning him and his passenger inside the car. Miranda, who was the passenger in the car, died of her injuries the next morning.
Fourteen others were reportedly taken to St. Anthony's and Denver General hospitals; one was listed in critical condition. Denver emergency services had to extricate several people from the three vehicles. Reports also say the RTD driver had not been cited, and she remains in the hospital recovering.
The public risks life and limb each time they travel on public transportation. Most of the time, the risk is reasonable, but adding to those risks by individual negligence or under-training employees increases danger tremendously.
