Austin Traffic Accident Claims Life of Resident

A Freightliner traveling northbound on the frontage road of Interstate 35 struck and killed a bicycle, ridden by an Austin resident, that was traveling eastbound on the south median of Ben White east of IH 35.

The freightliner reportedly attempted to make a right turn onto East Ben White when it struck the bicycle and its rider. The driver of the bicycle was transported to University Medical Center at

Brackenridge, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured.

The cyclist had no safety or warning flags on the bicycle, and it does not appear that alcohol or speed were factors in the crash. Although no charges are anticipated, the case is still under investigation and anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call APD Vehicular Homicide Unit Detectives.
