Factory Driver Dies In Testing Accident
A Porsche Factory driver died earlier this month following an car accident involving a Porsche 911 cabriolet prototype. The victim, a 51-year-old German Porsche engineer, was driving the car on the A5 Autobahn when he lost control and hit a guardrail, killing himself. No other cars were involved.
Reports say that the engineer was an experienced test driver. The car which had been camouflaged to conceal its origin, was found half-way beneath the guardrail. Although police and emergency personnel came to help from nearby Darmstadt, located between Frankfurt and Heidelberg, the driver was already dead, say reports.
An investigation to determine the cause is ongoing. Reportedly, there were two drivers testing two different cars at the same time, following nose to tail when the accident occurred. The second driver was far enough behind so that he was not involved.
